Wright’s funeral was held in the Social and Religious Facility, which was later renamed for him. Pres. Frank Porter Graham, leader of the Consolidated University of North Carolina, was the main speaker at the campus service. The campus YWCA organized a vesper service shortly after Wright’s death, and Dr. Meadows, the main speaker, compared Wright to Moses. Others compared him to Lincoln. All agreed that his contributions to East Carolina were monumental.

Following completion, the Social and Religious Facility on the east end of the campus quickly became an active center for student gatherings, events, lectures, and performances. President Wright contributed to this by having his chapel talks held there regularly. Students and faculty came to associate the facility with Wright’s leadership and vision so fully that on March 12, 1936, two years after his death, the board of trustees voted to name the building in his honor.
